Dreams and the stories of the dreamers form the narrative of ‘Violet Dreams’, Shivani’s second solo photo-exhibition.
An avid follower of Sufi philosophy with a keen interest in Jungian theory, the terrains of mystic realms for Shivani represent a higher consciousness into the ethereal world.
The photographs of ‘Violet Dreams’ articulate the universal language of union with the spiritual self, harmony, love and purity in light.
The Sufis believe that life is a spiritual voyage and a true traveller never knows the destination and never tires from the journey. Sufism became a cult for many, a religion for some and a way of life and philosophical pursuit for many more.
‘Violet Dreams’ portrays assimilation of oneness which embraces everyone who approaches it with an open heart. In a quest for oneness, the Sufi surrenders to God in love, over and over again. To a Sufi, one’s consciousness and one’s sense of self are but manifestations of God -The Beloved. In their universal language,Sufis believe that it is possible to become close to God and to experience this closenesswhile one is alive. It is this very attainment that comes with such intimacy with God:sufis emphasize, that is the very purpose of evolution.
‘Violet Dreams’ is Shivani Dass’s personal journal on this Sufi expedition. Featuring prominent Sufi darghas and silsilas across cities of India,Shivani captures the intensity of the quest for the Beloved through the eyes of her camera lenses.
‘Violet Dreams’ exhibition will be open to public from 26-31, August from 10.30 am-6.00 pm.
Venue: Galerie Romain Rolland, Alliance Francaise, 72, Lodi Estate New Delhi - 110003.
